Some dates are just dates. Others carry weight. Meaning. Purpose.
For me, August 15th is one of those dates.
I didn’t choose it by accident. I didn’t pick it randomly from a calendar. When I was deciding when to release “MAMA MINA,” something pulled me toward this day. And when I discovered what it represents, I knew this was the perfect day to honour my mother.
What Happens on 15th August?
In Germany and many parts of the world, August 15th is celebrated as ‘Mariä Himmelfahrt’ the Assumption of Mary.
It’s a day that honours Mary, the mother of Jesus. A day that commemorates her being taken up into heaven—body and soul—after her earthly life ended.
But beyond the religious significance, there’s something deeper. Something that touched my heart when I learned about it.
August 15th is a day that celebrates ‘motherhood’.
It’s a day that honours the strength, the sacrifice, and the love of a mother. It’s a day that reminds us that mothers are our first home, our first love, our first teachers. And even when they leave this earth, their love doesn’t end—it simply transforms.
It sounded familiar. Because that’s exactly what “MAMA MINA” is about.
Why This Day Matters for “MAMA MINA”
My mother, Mina Appiah, was my Mary.
She wasn’t perfect. No one is. But she was pure in her love. Pure in her sacrifice. Pure in her faith. She raised me with nothing but prayer and determination. She worked tirelessly so I could dream. She loved unconditionally even when I gave her reasons not to.
She was the epitome of motherhood.
And when she left this earth, I felt like a part of me went with her. But over time, I realized something beautiful she didn’t really leave. Her love became my foundation. Her prayers became my protection. Her spirit became my guiding light.
Just like Mary, she was taken home. But her love remains.
So when I discovered that August 15th is a day to honour mothers, to celebrate their journey home, and to remember that their love is eternal I knew.
This is Mama Mina’s day.
A Tribute That Was Always Meant for This Day
“MAMA MINA” is more than just a song.
It’s a letter from my soul to hers. It’s a reggae melody that carries her spirit. It’s my way of telling the world that she existed, she loved, and she mattered.
And now, every time someone listens to this song on August 15th, they’ll know—this is a day for mothers.
This is a day for honouring the women who gave us life, shape our character, and love us beyond measure.
This is a day for celebrating that love never dies.
